Shuttle Service

I frequently shuttle guests between Harpers Ferry and Dulles Airport, the closest airport to Harpers Ferry.  Other frequent shuttles to the north of Harpers Ferry are to Pen- Mar Park on the PA/MD stateline, and points in between.  Frequent shuttles to the south of Harpers Ferry are to Blackburn, Snickers Gap, Bears Den hostel, Front Royal, and Thornton Gap, and points in between.  Please call for rates.

Hikers:

Point-to-point shuttles for you and your backpack in the VA/MD/WV/DC/PA area.

Bicyclists:

I can shuttle bicyclists and bikes along the C&O Canal from DC to Hancock, MD.  Please call for rates.

Baggage Service

Imagine walking for 2-4 days along the Appalachian Trail carrying only your lunch, water and weather gear.  You can leave your heavy backpack with Teahorse and let Teahorse shuttle your backpack for you along the Appalachian Trail on two routes:  

1. Maryland Route:between Harpers Ferry and Pen-Mar Park;
2. Virginia Route:between Harpers Ferry and Bears Den. 

• You look at our designated stops (below) and choose stops that fit your hiking style.
• Our baggage service will transport your backpack (up to 45 lbs.) to the stops you select.
• You leave your backpack at the stop in the morning.
• Then you can hike leisurely, just carrying food, water and weather gear. 
• We deliver your bag safely in the evening and come back in the morning to get it again.

  Baggage Service Price per pack: 
       Between Harpers Ferry and Pen-Mar Park (40 AT trail miles): 
             for one pack:               $340
             for two packs:              $150 each
             for 3 packs:                  $100 each
             for 4 packs or more:     $75 each
            
        Between Ashby Gap and Harpers Ferry (34 AT trail miles):      
             for one pack:              $200
             for two packs:             $90 each
             for 3 or more packs:    $60 each

Sample Itinerary for Maryland Route (40.9 AT trail miles)
Day 1:  (10 miles)
Morning:  Begin hike at Pen- Mar Park  (leave pack with Teahorse Hostel)
Evening:  Retrieve pack at Free State Hiker Hostel.  Spend the night at Ensign Cowall shelter (0.2 miles from parking lot) or at Free State Hiker Hostel.
Day 2:  (8.6 miles)
Morning:  Leave pack in bunk room at Free State Hiker Hostel.
Evening:   Retrieve pack at US 40 parking lot (I would meet you at a specified time).  Spend the night at Pine Knob shelter (0.6 miles from parking lot).
Day 3:  (12.3 miles)
Morning:  Give pack to me at US 40 parking lot (I would meet you at a specified time).  
Evening:  Retrieve pack at Gathland State Park (I would meet you at a specified time).  Spend the night at Crampton Gap Shelter (0.4 miles from Gathland).
Day 4:  (10 miles)
Morning:  Give pack to me at Gathland State Park (I would meet you at a specified time).
Hike back to Harpers Ferry and Teahorse Hostel where your pack is waiting for you!
Alternatively on Day 2, hike 13.5 miles to US Alt-40 parking lot.  Spend the night at Dahlgren’s Backpacker Campground (0.2 miles from parking lot).  Then on Day 3:  hike 7.4 miles to Gathland State Park.
